A New Addition to Our Family

Our new sweetie, LouLou....

LouLou is an eleven week old long haired Chihuahua. We have had her a week and a half. She is brave and loving.
Smart too, she is training me very quickly.

We think she is cute as a button. Daisy's thoughts are quite different. But Daisy has been good with her and is doing her best to ignore her entirely. Which presents LouLou with a problem as she is doing her best to get Daisy's attention.

October gave us a window of time to get a new puppy. I had been debating whether to get one since we lost Max our beloved Tabby in the spring, but knew this summer was not the time for one. But boating season is just about over now (LouLou won't go on board till late next spring) which gives me six months to work with her and teach her, to establish trust, and to get her accustomed to new places and loud noises.

Why a Chihuahua? First of all Laura really liked the breed and so we did some research. I wanted her to have the experience and responsibility of a puppy. And they have certainly bonded. I think Chi's are smart and funny and eminently portable.
A dog this small is a new challenge for us, nearly all our dogs have been 'working' breeds, Collies, Shepherds, Retrievers. But LouLou is a charmer and already has my heart wrapped around her tiny paw. Her small size will be an advantage on our boat. She will have to wear a life jacket all of the time though, which is fine because it will help to keep her warm (a chihuahua issue).

A thank you to Carlee, our breeder, she did a great job raising and socializing our little pup and house training her too. Chi's are very clean. (But thank goodness for those peepee pads).

If you see us next summer out on the water, Daisy will be on my lap (she does not enjoy being underway, loves it when we get there though) and LouLou will be on Laura's, or maybe in a baby sling around John's neck. Don't laugh though OK?
